History—Our Second Century of Service

It was high summer in Toledo, Ohio, July 9, 1909. Horse-drawn carriages shared the streets with the occasional shiny black Model T Ford (left), revolutionary for its affordability and first available only months before on October 1, 1908. Businessmen in high, starched collars and wool suits tipped their derby hats to ladies twirling parasols to shield themselves from the noonday sun. Despite the heat, work in the non air-conditioned buildings of the time went on, and the Ohio Electric Light Association gathered for its 14th annual convention inside the old Boody House Hotel at North Saint Clair and Madison.  More...
